“The days are long, but the years are short.”
It always amazes me how quickly the months and years go by. I can’t believe we are approaching the 2nd quarter of the year. Didn’t we just ring in the New Year yesterday?
It always amazes me how quickly the months and years go by. I can’t believe we are approaching the 2nd quarter of the year. Didn’t we just ring in the New Year yesterday?
Well, let me introduce you to Logan Lee, born right on his due date, January 23, at 10:17 a.m.
Boy was it a LONG labor…
Although it has only been a month since he was born, he has already taught me so much.
1. Being Patient.
It is difficult to understand someone that communicates in the form of crying and screaming. Learning to stay calm in the midst of multiple diaper changes, breastfeeding, pumping, feeding myself, combing my hair, checking my email…is truly an art.
2. Being Present.
Time does not stop to wait for anyone. All the moms that I have spoken to tell me how quickly the newborn phase goes by. It has not been easy, but I continuously remind myself to be present and to cherish all the moments that I have with him. He will be a walking toddler before I know it!Being present started while I was pregnant. Friends and family would often ask me if I was excited for Logan’s arrival. Although I was happily anticipating, I was also aware that I was about to lose some of my freedoms such as sleeping through the night, spontaneous date nights, and uninterrupted T.V. time. I made sure to soak up and enjoy every minute of that freedom and I never took any of it for granted.
3. Creating Balance.
No matter how much women enjoy being a mother, there has to be some sort of healthy balance between work and home life. It is important to be able to do what I am passionate about, chiropractic, and to be a mom at the same time. In addition, I must make time for myself to eliminate burn-out and to fuel me to move forward. I really enjoy simple things such as taking my time to shower, taking a stroll to the park, and even baking lactation cookies! Although simple, they help me clear my mind and give me the space I need to recharge.
4. Love Unconditionally.
Love can be found anywhere in several forms. Logan has taught me what it feels like to love someone with every ounce of my heart. More importantly, he reminds me of my own parents’ love for me.
My father and I. Logan looks just like mommy!

5. Sacrifice.
I am breastfeeding as I am writing this blog. I’ve mastered doing several things with one hand. I haven’t slept through the night since he was born, and my free time is limited. I often jokingly tell my husband that Logan is my little parasite, an organism that lives on another organism (its host) and benefits by deriving nutrients at the host’s expense…ME! Although parasites are known to give nothing in return, Logan fills our hearts with love and joy. He has taught us what it truly means to make sacrifices for the people we love. When things get tough and I am on the edge of surrendering it all, he sneaks in a smile to remind me of God’s hope, blessings, and endless love.
I look forward to seeing everyone back at the office next week!
